Watch Best Thriller English Movies On Netflix To Make Your Day

Halloween isn't the only occasion for scary movies, and the films on this list include some of the greatest performers of the current and past generations. Netflix's extensive collection of thrillers features scripts that are based on true stories as well as creative fantasy. These filmmakers have pushed the genre forward, paid tribute to its original creators, and played a role in its inception. It's difficult to choose the perfect movie for your mood when there are so many captivating titles and engaging stories accessible for streaming, but when you do, it's an incredible experience.

American Psycho

American Psycho

Introducing Patrick Bateman, the well-groomed man who not only looks good in his morning skincare routine but also, well, slays. American Psycho, which is based on the contentious 1991 novel by Bret Easton Ellis, follows Bateman as he leads a double life, passing for a serial killer while working as a sophisticated investment banker in New York City and socializing with his narcissistic colleagues.

Christian Bale creates a massive character study with his mordant and monstrous Bateman, while this satirical horror wonderfully dissects the soulless capitalist culture of the 1980s, when materialism reigns supreme and vanity is a virtue. The critic from Entertainment Weekly states, "Funny, pungent, and weirdly gripping, American Psycho is a satire that feels like a hallucination" covered in a "tone of rambunctious, light-fingered malevolence."

Anon

Anon

Nobody is granted the luxury of privacy and anonymity in the 2018 British-American science fiction thriller Anon. In the dystopian society where everyone is implanted with an eye gadget used to record and follow the actions of those around them, Clive Owen plays the unstable police officer Det. Sal Frieland. All illegal conduct is captured on camera thanks to the government's transparency measures, but when Sal meets Amanda Seyfried, a strange woman without a digital record, He learns that she might have ties to a series of unsolved murders he is investigating.

Andrew Niccol, the director, expressed to Entertainment Weekly his desire to create a film exploring the concept of privacy. He believes that there was never a battle for privacy because it was already surrendered without resistance in exchange for convenience.

A Simple Favor

A Simple Favor

The plot of A Simple Favor is anything but simple, as it revolves around a mommy blogger trying to locate her missing friend Emily in a thriller. Director Paul Feig adds dark comedy to the romantic thriller A Simple Favor, enhancing it with strong performances, Hitchcockian atmosphere, and suspense that keeps the audience engaged despite some unresolved plot twists.

According to the critic from EW, the film is stylish and uses its charm to surprise audiences as the mystery unravels, from the alluring French music to the sparkling gin martinis.

Bird Box

Bird Box

In Bird Box, the ability to see is a disadvantage in a post-apocalyptic thriller where the enemy must remain hidden. Sandra Bullock plays the role of Malorie Hayes, a woman who must guide two children down a river with blindfolds to protect them from entities that drove people to suicide after attacking Earth five years ago.

Switching back and forth between their current expedition and previous incidents that brought Malorie and the kids to this moment, director Susanne Bier emphasizes the suspense of the unfamiliar and depends on her diverse yet skilled ensemble to handle the rest. Debuting in the same year as A Quiet Place, Bird Box shares a somewhat similar concept and although it received less initial spotlight, this sci-fi horror flick is a fantastic choice for fans of both genres.

Captain Phillips

Captain Phillips

Captain Phillips, featuring Tom Hanks, is a film that portrays the Maersk Alabama hijacking in 2009 by Somali pirates, staying true to the real-life events and introducing a promising new actor. Hanks portrays Capt. Richard Phillips, a man who faces pirates armed solely with his strong Massachusetts accent. At the same time, newcomer Barkhad Abdi, portraying the desperate pirate in charge of attacking Phillips' ship, effectively combines aggression with sensitivity in a performance that earned him an Oscar nomination.

The type of movie that has you cheering for the protagonists and understanding the antagonists, Captain Phillips' cast and screenplay skillfully handle treacherous situations.

The Devil All the Time

The Devil All the Time

The Devil All the Time is a Netflix original film that delves into the lives of interconnected groups in Southern Ohio from the end of World War II to the mid-1960s. Connected through religious spreading of beliefs, conflict, dishonesty, self-inflicted death, desertion, and multiple killings, the ensemble, featuring many prominent up-and-coming Hollywood actors, effectively portrays the narrator's emotional intensity and grim themes.

Based on the 2011 novel and directed by Antonio Campos (The Staircase), The Devil All the Time takes the title's "all the time" concept seriously, displaying many sins and exposing the true extent of human evil. However, according to EW's reviewer, Campos' main achievement as the movie's director is balancing between art-house ambiance and Southern Gothic melodrama, while ultimately staying on the darkly captivating side.

El Camino

El Camino

The top meth producer in Albuquerque has returned, bitch. Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, characters played by Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, respectively, are back in El Camino, a movie connected to the popular AMC series Breaking Bad. This time, the focus is more on Pinkman's character. Traveling freely through time and revisiting events shown in the series, El Camino continues the story right after Breaking Bad ends, featuring appearances from characters throughout the show's five seasons.

Jane, Skinny Pete, and Badger return in various ways, but it is Nazi Todd (Jesse Plemons) who drives most of the film's storyline. Fans of Breaking Bad will be satisfied to witness Jesse Pinkman taking the opportunity to reflect on the past few years of his life, despite Aaron Paul appearing noticeably older than he did when the series ended in 2013.

Emily the Criminal

Emily, burdened with debt and student loans, is among the countless struggling artists in Los Angeles facing imminent financial collapse. Due to a previous felony conviction blocking her from securing employment that could provide adequate income for survival, Emily discovers meaning — and fast money — through her participation in a credit card fraud scheme. The survival tactic Emily initially used evolves into something bigger, as she moves away from the corporate world she can never fully succeed in and embraces a life of crime.

Aubrey Plaza excels in this role, embodying her straightforward approach and unique dry humor which resonates with an audience disillusioned by the harsh economic climate, as they struggle to achieve traditional life goals such as owning a home and retiring.

Fair Play

Fair Play

Newly engaged pair Luke (Alden Ehrenreich) and Emily (Phoebe Dynevor) must keep their passionate and irresistible love hidden at their job. Yet, once Emily lands a top position at the competitive hedge fund, the dynamics in the office start to fracture their happy relationship.

EW's critic compliments the concise and engaging script of Fair Play, noting that the final act is full of unpredictable events. Both main characters bravely navigate the complexities of workplace dynamics and gender expectations without falling into stereotypical victim or villain roles.

The Good Nurse

The Good Nurse

Nurses are like angels who have the ability to carry out tasks like demons. In The Good Nurse, a psychological thriller by Netflix, Amy Loughren (played by Jessica Chastain) is a night nurse who forms a close bond with Charles Cullen (portrayed by Eddie Redmayne) at work. Amy, a single mother with a severe heart condition, is surprised to discover that the hospital patient's recent death is believed to be deliberate, and that Charles could be connected to it. The deeper Amy looks, the more she discovers that her trusted colleague is actually a much more sinister individual.

Based on the real-life story of Amy Loughren assisting authorities in capturing serial killer Charles Cullen, The Good Nurse is classic cinema inspired by true events, with a chillingly authentic story that is only minimally embellished. Believe us - you have never witnessed Eddie Redmayne in this way before.
