Septimius Awards 2024: Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub named best actor for 'Scoop', 'Maidaan' best Asian film

Actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and the film "Maidaan," starring Ajay Devgn, emerged as winners at the 2024 Septimius Awards held in the Netherlands. The awards ceremony took place from August 19-20 at Amsterdam's Tuschinski Theatre.

Zeeshan Ayyub was honored with the Best Asian Actor award for his outstanding performance in the 2023 crime drama series "Scoop." Meanwhile, "Maidaan," directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, was named the Best Asian Film. The sports drama, featuring Ajay Devgn, delves into the golden era of Indian football, highlighting the true story of Syed Abdul Rahim, who was both a coach and manager of the Indian football team from 1950 until his passing in 1963. The film finally hit theaters in April, after facing multiple delays, and has since been recognized for its artistic excellence.

Zeeshan's portrayal of Imran Siddiqui, a principled newspaper editor in "Scoop," received widespread acclaim from audiences. The series, directed by Hansal Mehta, was praised for its compelling narrative and powerful performances. Upon learning of Zeeshan's win at the Septimius Awards, Hansal Mehta took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate the actor. He expressed his joy, stating, "You can't keep a good man down. Congratulations @Mdzeeshanayyub for this much delayed but very richly deserved award. This one's for all those juries that chose to ignore your stellar performance in #Scoop. Best Asian Actor #Scoop at the Septimius Awards, Amsterdam. @SeptimiusAwards." Zeeshan responded with gratitude, thanking the director for his kind words.

 

Boney Kapoor, the producer of "Maidaan," also celebrated the film's win on social media. He expressed his delight, saying, "Delighted and honored to know that our film #Maidaan was accorded the Best Asian Film at the prestigious Septimius Awards held in Amsterdam, acknowledging the film's artistic brilliance and its significance on the global cinematic stage. Congratulations to our hardworking and dedicated cast and crew that accomplished to create the magnificence of Maidaan."

The Septimius Awards, known for its emphasis on discovering and promoting new independent talent, celebrates visionary films across various categories, including fiction, non-fiction, animation, television series, and scripts.
