It wasn't easy, resistance from the very community they were trying to help, brutal living conditions, years of slow, uncertain progress. Watching them build a hospital and a school out of near nothing is the kind of story that makes you sit up a little straighter.

Natarang follows Guna, a strong, respected wrestler who joins a traveling Tamasha folk theatre troupe after losing his job, only to be cast as a Lavani dancer, a role that forces him into a feminine persona both on and off stage.
As Guna slowly loses himself to the role, the film digs into questions of masculinity, identity and the price of art in a deeply conservative society. It's bold, uncomfortable in places, and one of Marathi cinema's most acclaimed performances from Atul Kulkarni.
6. Jogwa

Two parallel stories, both tied to the Devadasi tradition, where children get dedicated to the goddess Yellamma and lose any real say over their own lives. One follows a man raised as a Jogta, pulled between the identity forced on him and the life he actually wants.
