What Is Dacoit About?

Haridas (Adivi Sesh), a Dalit individual from the Madanapalle area, develops feelings for Saraswati (Mrunal Thakur), who is part of a wealthy, upper caste family. Their connection encounters significant resistance because of caste disparities, ultimately compelling her to marry within her community. A falsehood spoken by Saraswati puts Haridas behind bars for many years.

Skip to the time of Covid-19. Haridas breaks out of prison with intentions to escape to Dubai, for which he requires funds. He formulates a scheme to embezzle money being moved from a hospital. There, he unexpectedly encounters Saraswati once more: now a mother, with her husband hospitalized and urgently requiring Rs 1 Crore for a heart transplant.

Noticing her hopelessness, Haridas incorporates her into his scheme by assigning her the role of the getaway driver. What comes next constitutes the essence of the tale: Will he pursue vengeance? What caused Saraswati to turn against him?

What Works? The only aspect that benefits Dacoit is a plot twist near the conclusion and additional instances where Adivi captivates the audience with his gaze.

What Doesn’t Work? Dacoit features a strong supporting cast, but unfortunately, no character truly shines. Anurag Kashyap, Prakash Raj, Sunil, and Atul Kulkarni all deliver lackluster performances in poorly crafted roles.
