During a recent media interaction, Merlapaka Gandhi was inquired about his creative process, specifically if he typically builds narratives around an actor, character, or concept.
The filmmaker mentioned that the concept for Korean Kanakaraju came to him without considering a hero. It was motivated not by a novel, but by an actual event during a road trip to Bengaluru.
The flourishing of Korean culture in a small town in Andhra Pradesh captivated him instantly and planted the idea that would eventually lead to Korean Kanakaraju.

Korean Kanakaraju Collects Rs 26 Crore Before Release
The producers have effectively arranged the sale of OTT, satellite, audio, and Hindi dubbing rights together for an impressive amount of Rs 26 crore.
With an estimated production budget of Rs 38 crore, ‘Korean Kanakaraju’ has already recovered a significant part of its investment. Industry experts estimate that the theatrical rights will generate an extra Rs 12-15 crore, strengthening the film’s financial status even more.
Varun Tej Upcoming Movie
In addition to Korean Kanakaraju, Varun Tej is working on Bhari, a sports action drama helmed by Yadhu Vamsee. The movie belongs to a totally distinct genre compared to his forthcoming horror-comedy, and the actor will portray a volleyball player in it.
