Actor-politician Vijay and the head of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which performed impressively in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, have attracted attention for various reasons.

He is also being recognized as an emerging influence in Tamil Nadu politics. TVK, a newcomer in state politics, secured 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly; however, being 10 seats shy of the 118 needed for a majority, the party must seek assistance from other parties to establish the new government in the State.

He understands that securing women and children will ensure his success. “And that’s what he accomplished,” states Jai Pratap Sisodia, an election management consultant from Delhi, who collaborated with parties in Tamil Nadu for the 2026 election. Women accounted for over 80% of the extra voters in the election.

Vijay transformed his 85,000 fan club network into "digital champions" and micro influencers. He employed holograms, robots, and AI-generated content, hosted virtual rallies, and utilized hyper-local digital messaging; his aim was to attract first-time voters - bring them in, along with their entire families.

“It was effective because individuals have greater trust in content that originates from friends, family, and communities rather than from direct brand communication.” “Essentially, the audience serves as the medium,” states digital marketing expert Hariharan Gandhi from Madurai.

When Will Vijay Take Oath As New CM?

All eyes are now on whether Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), will become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. However, according to reports, Vijay is unlikely to take oath as Chief Minister today because the party is still trying to secure enough support to prove majority in the Assembly.

TVK made a strong debut in the assembly elections by winning 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, emerging as the single-largest party. However, the party is still short of the majority mark. Since Vijay is expected to vacate one of the two seats he won, TVK’s effective strength may come down to 107 seats.

Reports also suggest that the Indian National Congress, which won five seats as part of the DMK-led alliance, has decided to support TVK. Meanwhile, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) secured four seats, while Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) won two seats each.

The outgoing ruling party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won 59 seats, while All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) secured 47 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), and Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam (AMMK) won one seat each, while Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) secured two seats.

Fans Arrived At Chennai’s Nehru Stadium For Oath Ceremony

Numerous fans allegedly thought Vijay’s swearing-in event would occur on May 7 and showed up at Chennai’s Nehru Stadium, where the oath-taking ceremony was anticipated to take place.

Nevertheless, the fans were disheartened upon discovering that the details regarding the ceremony were not verified. Images and clips of fans lined up at the location immediately appeared on social media.
