Nationally award-winning actor Surekha Sikri died in Mumbai at the age of 75. The actor had been ill for some time and suffered a stroke in 2020 and a paralytic stroke in early 2018. The veteran actor's career has spanned theater, film, and television. He made his debut with the 1978 political drama Kissa Kursi Ka and played author roles in films from various industries. He has received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress three times, including Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995), and Badhaai Ho (2018).
Born in Uttar Pradesh, she graduated from the National School of Drama (NSD) in 1971. She also won the Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 1989. The actress's father was working in the Air Force and her mother was known as a teacher. . She married late Hemant Reggie and they have one son together, Rahul Sikri.
The actress found great popularity with her role as Kalyani Devi on the television series Balika Vadhu. She was part of the program from its inception in 2008 to its conclusion in 2016. Her work as her mother in 2018 Badhai Ho was also highly appreciated and she also received a national award. The actress arrived in a wheelchair to receive her award.
