Dhurandhar 2 also experienced numerous cancellations of regional paid premiere screenings throughout South India because of technical and content delivery problems, prompting director Aditya Dhar to apologize on social media.

In Karnataka and Kerala, the screenings of the Kannada and Malayalam versions were unable to proceed due to delays in the final digital files, leading to abrupt cancellations in cities such as Bengaluru, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram. Tamil Nadu also experienced effects, with exhibitors like Vetri Cinemas and Vettri Theatres apologizing following the cancellation or postponement of shows.

Jinesh Joshi, Research Analyst at PL Capital, states that the movie is demonstrating blockbuster-level interest prior to its official launch, heightening hopes for record-setting box office revenues and a possible uplift for theatre operator PVR.

Despite a significant decline in the wider Indian stock markets and its international counterparts, PVR Inox share price was performing positively.

The multiplex share surged 2% to reach its daily peak of ₹1,040 on BSE on Thursday, March 19. In contrast, the Indian benchmark indices, Nifty and Sensex dropped more than 2% today after declines in global counterparts as oil prices surged due to the ongoing US-Iran conflict. In the March meeting, the US Fed maintained interest rates, signaling concerns about inflation risks

Trends in early reservations

The movie, featuring the fictional character Hamza Ali Mazari, is scheduled to premiere on March 19, 2026, with robust early indicators suggesting remarkable interest. According to Sacnilk data, the film has already earned ₹405 million ( ₹40.5 crore) from paid previews, and first-day advance bookings have exceeded ₹290 million ( ₹29 crore).

“Considering the thrilling early trends, we think the film could potentially enter the ‘All Time Highest Hindi Advance Bookings’ list and secure the number one position by surpassing KGF-2,” Joshi mentioned.

As of now, KGF-2 leads the list with advance sales totaling ₹407 million, followed by Baahubali 2 at ₹375 million, Pushpa 2 with ₹373 million, and Jawan at ₹372 million. Given the current momentum, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is nearing the top position.

Reasons the Dhurandhar sequel could become a box office sensation.

PL Capital thinks the sequel is likely to exceed the success of its predecessor, which earned roughly ₹8.4 billion (₹840 crore) in India. Multiple elements are fueling this positive outlook.

Initially, the original movie has established significant goodwill, fostering a devoted audience ready for the sequel. Secondly, the film is anticipated to have a primarily solo launch, since the rival movie Toxic has been delayed. 

Moreover, in contrast to the initial installment, the sequel will be launched in various languages such as Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, greatly broadening its audience, the brokerage noted.

It also highlighted that the timing of the launch is another significant advantage, aligning with festive events like Eid and Gudi Padwa, which usually lead to increased visitor numbers. The movie is anticipated to have high pricing, in contrast to the original, which was an unexpected success.

Overall, Dhurandhar 2 is shaping up to be a major cinematic event with record-breaking potential. Strong advance bookings, festive release timing, and wide multi-language reach are working in its favor.
