No, it is not based on a true story. Batwara 1947 is inspired by the renowned play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, written by playwright Asghar Wajahat.
The narrative centers on a Mohajir family that relocates to Lahore post-Partition and occupies a deserted Hindu residence. An elderly Hindu woman, however, is determined to stay in her home, resulting in a poignant tale of humanity, tolerance, and optimism despite significant divides.
The movie signifies the comeback of Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi after almost thirty years. The actor-director pair previously produced movies like Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak.
