Fans of the highly-liked superhero TV series The Umbrella Academy have been wondering whether there would be a fifth season or whether this is really the end for the Hargreeves after a season 4 that fell, well, very final. Although season 4's decisive tone has raised speculation, the show has been a hit for Netflix since its release in 2019. Here is what we currently know regarding a possible fifth season.
The fourth-season finale, "End of the Beginning," brought the Hargreeves' narrative to a touching and rather surprising close. The first six episodes of The Umbrella Academy's fourth season debuted on August 8, 2024. There were ten episodes in each of the show's first three seasons.
The series was created by Steve Blackman and developed by Jeremy Slater, who is best known for the MCU TV show Moon Knight (2022), and is based on the comic book series of the same name by writers Gerard Way and artists Gabriel Bá, which was released by Dark Horse Comics.
Is Netflix planning to renew The Umbrella Academy for a fifth season?
In a nutshell, no—at least not quite yet. As of right now, Netflix has not released an official statement. Additionally, it seems likely that the story of Hargreeves, commonly referred to as the Brellies in the fandom, is over.
Does The Umbrella Academy's post-credits scene hint at a different future?
The post-credits scene shows us marigolds, the material that grants superpowers, blossoming, but it doesn't imply the Hargreeves are back to life. As Blackman put it so clearly, the purpose of this sequence was just to add a little more ambiguity to the send-off.
"You can assume many things from that," he stated during a Netflix interview. We can presume that somewhere in the world, there is still some Marigold essence. It might never do anything more. And since there are eight flowers, it might just be flowers or it might be what's left of them. And some of them start to resemble one another. However, I'll let the audience interpret it for themselves. Is it true that only a small portion of the Umbrella Academy exists, or does that imply that there may be more of them?

The plot of Umbrella Academy is essentially coming to a conclusion with the finale.
As The Umbrella Academy season 4 episode 6 comes to a close, Elliot Page's Viktor, Tom Hopper's Luther Hargreeves, David Castañeda's Diego, Emmy Raver-Lampman's Allison Hargreeves, Robert Sheehan's Klaus, Aidan Gallagher's Five, and Ritu Arya's Lila give their lives in order to restore the one true timeline—or, in MCU parlance, the Sacred Timeline. The only option to make things right was to completely erase them from the world because they were oddities and shouldn't have existed in the first place. So, yes, they did pass away.
The Umbrella Academy could only possibly make a comeback in the form of a reboot or spinoff. However, Netflix may decide to continue the show if it finds it to be too profitable to cancel.
