What Is the Story of Chumbak Series?
The story is set in a made-up housing society called Chumbak Colony, where five families live right next to each other and, somehow, right inside each other's lives too. There's no big mystery or dramatic twist waiting to be uncovered here. It's just... chaos.
Everyday, ordinary chaos. A husband-wife fight becomes the whole colony's business by dinner time. A festival celebration turns into a full-blown event nobody asked for. Someone's love life becomes everyone's favourite topic at the tea stall.
Honestly, if you've ever lived in a typical Indian housing society, you already know this story. You've lived it. That's kind of the whole point - Chumbak isn't trying to surprise you with plot twists. It wants you to laugh because you recognise these people.
Netflix's Chumbak Cast
This is honestly where the show earns most of its excitement, and Netflix's Chumbak cast list reads like a "greatest hits" of Indian TV comedy.
Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani play Rajni and Kuku Merchant - a couple who bicker like it's their full-time job but are still, somehow, madly in love.
Arjun Bijlani and Helly Shah are Mickey and Twinkle Oberoi, the dreamy couple who just want to be left alone in their little romantic bubble (good luck with that, given the neighbours).
Then there's Sumeet Vyas and Manasi Parekh as Aditya and Priyanka Khanna - they look calm and put-together on the surface, but there's plenty going on underneath.
Add Sumeet Raghavan and Sandeepa Dhar as Dharmendra and Kiran Kejriwal, plus Delnaaz Irani, Anant V Joshi, and Amyra Dastur playing the wonderfully chaotic Taraporewala family, and that's Netflix's Chumbak cast in a nutshell - packed, familiar, and clearly having fun with it.

Chumbak comes from JD Majethia and Aatish Kapadia, the duo behind Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Khichdi, so yeah, expectations were sky-high going in. And mostly, this Chumbak review can say it delivers - just maybe not in the way everyone expected.
The comedy is old-school. Like, genuinely old-school. It's built on situations, not sharp one-liners or fast punchlines, and that works really well if you grew up watching Khichdi reruns. If you're someone who prefers quicker, edgier humour, though, a few scenes might feel a little dated to you. That's just being honest.
What actually saves the show, and what this Chumbak review keeps coming back to, is Neena Gupta. She's brilliant, as always - funny without trying too hard, and genuinely warm in a role that could've easily gone over-the-top. Arjun Bijlani and Helly Shah bring a softer, more romantic energy that balances out all the loud family drama happening around them.
And underneath all the noise, there's something oddly comforting about Chumbak. It's messy, sure, but it's the kind of messy that reminds you of home.

Chumbak isn't reinventing anything, but it doesn't need to - it's the comfort food of Netflix shows, chaotic on the outside and genuinely warm on the inside.
