Tamil Blockbuster Thangalaan Movie Now Streaming On OTT Platform

Curious about the story behind this tribal chief's clash against the odds, or how a sorceress turns his world upside down?

Or perhaps you’ve heard whispers about the controversies surrounding its release? Let’s dive into the riveting details that make Thangalaan an unmissable cinematic event!

OTT Platform

Thangalaan, a highly awaited Tamil OTT release of the year, is now streaming on Netflix. Following its cinema debut on August 15, 2024, in various languages, fans have been looking forward to the opportunity to view the film from the convenience of their home.

Thangalaan

The fierce and gripping action drama, featuring Vikram, is currently available for streaming in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, but there is no news on a Hindi version at this time.

Directed by Pa Ranjith, Thangalaan first received a variety of reviews in cinemas, yet Vikram's powerful performance received widespread acclaim. Vikram had previously referred to the role as among the most physically and emotionally demanding of his career, emphasizing the intensity of the character and the historical backdrop as distinct challenges.

About Thangalaan Film

Thangalaan takes place during the British Raj and tells the tale of a formidable tribal chief, portrayed by Vikram, who faces a sorceress against the dramatic setting of the Kolar Gold Fields. Malavika Mohanan plays an essential role as a divine-like character, with Parvathy Thiruvothu, Daniel Caltagirone, Pasupathy, and Hari Krishnan featuring in significant roles as well.

Thangalaan Global Earning

Thangalaan's global earnings are approximately Rs 70 crore. In spite of the significant excitement about the film, its reception in India fell short of the expected goals, resulting in its lackluster performance. This result probably affected the producers' choice to launch the film on OTT sooner than originally scheduled, giving viewers the chance to enjoy it from their own homes.

Thangalaan's legal issues

A Thiruvallur resident, Porkodi, submitted a PIL aiming to prevent the OTT release of Thangalaan, asserting that the film respectfully represented Buddhism while portraying Vaishnavism in a comedic light, which could lead to religious conflicts. The petition sought a delay on the digital launch, claiming it might disrupt social unity.

Nonetheless, a bench composed of Chief Justice KR Sriram and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy rejected the petition, asserting that the film had previously received approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for its theatrical showing. The court decided there were no reasons to prevent its OTT release, since the film had already received certification for public display.

In Brief, Thangalaan offers an intense cinematic experience with Vikram’s standout performance and a gripping historical narrative. Now streaming on Netflix, it’s the perfect opportunity to witness this epic drama unfold from the comfort of your home!
