Although it is hard to say goodbye to a thrilling year, there are some highly awaited movies coming to theaters in December.
Despite the exciting release of numerous movies in November 2024 like Red One, Gladiator II, Wicked, and Moana 2, December is filled with highly anticipated films from popular franchises such as The Lord of the Rings and Sony's Spider-Man. Therefore, if you're in need of an excellent film to watch in the upcoming month, don't search anymore.
1. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
Releasing Date: 13 December
It has been twenty years since the first Lord of the Rings movies came out, and some people might think there is no more to discover in J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy world, but they are mistaken. The upcoming animated fantasy movie, The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim, is helmed by Kenji Kamiyama, a renowned director of Japanese anime like Ghost in the Shell, Ultraman, and Eden of the East.
The movie takes place 183 years prior to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy and follows the story of Helm Hammerhand's family, who are attacked by Wulf, a vicious lord from Dunland seeking revenge for his father's murder. Confronted with a powerful army that could destroy their kingdom, the King of Rohan bravely defends the ancient fortress of Hornburg, also called Helm's Deep, in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
2. Kraven the Hunter
Releasing Date: 13 December
Kraven the Hunter is an upcoming movie featuring the beloved Marvel Comics character and is the sixth entry in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, generating great excitement. J. C. Chandor directs the movie which explores the action-filled beginnings of Nikolai Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a man with a tumultuous relationship with his cruel father, driving him towards seeking revenge. Later on, he would gain a reputation as both the top hunter globally and the most dreaded one. The film Kraven the Hunter, featuring Ariana DeBose, Russel Crowe, Christopher Abbott, Fred Hechinger, and Alessandro Nivola, is scheduled to come out on December 13, 2024.

3. Mufasa: The Lion King
Releasing Date: 20 December
Mufasa: Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of The Lion King prequel, expected to come out in 2024, following the 2019 release of The Lion King. Barry Jenkins directs this latest animated adventure movie, with a star-studded cast that includes Seth Rogen, Mads Mikkelsen, Donald Glover, and Keith David.
4. Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Releasing Date: 20 December
Sonic the Hedgehog movies, inspired by the well-known video game series, have been quite successful, with each previous movie making over $300 million and receiving positive reviews from critics. Therefore, it is anticipated that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will provide the same level of entertainment, with Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz returning to play their iconic characters of Dr. Robotnik and Sonic.
In this section, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles come up against a powerful adversary known as Shadow the Hedgehog, who demonstrates immense destructive abilities that could potentially annihilate the entire planet if not stopped. In order to protect the planet from the enigmatic hedgehog, the three individuals form an improbable partnership with Dr. Robotnik, even though the chances of success are very slim. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to premiere in cinemas on December 20, 2024.
