Kamal Haasan's "Indian 2" is scheduled to premiere on Netflix, as the streaming platform announced on Sunday. The film will be available for streaming from August 9, 2024, in various languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Initially released in theaters on July 12, the movie received a mixed reception from audiences.

The official Netflix Instagram account confirmed the release, stating, “Thatha varaaru, kadhara vida poraaru. (Buckle up. Indian Thatha is back to take on the system again) #Indian2 is coming to Netflix on 9 August in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada! #Indian2OnNetflix.”
Due to the lukewarm response from both audiences and critics, the filmmakers decided to release "Indian 2" on Netflix within a month of its theatrical debut. They also trimmed the film, bringing its runtime down to 2 hours and 40 minutes.
"Indian 2," which premiered in theaters on July 12, is the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 hit "Indian," also directed by Shankar. This sequel marks a significant reunion for Kamal Haasan and director Shankar after nearly three decades. The film's music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with the screenplay crafted by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu, and Lakshmi Saravanakumar.
In "Indian 2," Kamal Haasan returns as Senapathy, famously known as "Indian Thatha." This character is a vigilante fighting corruption with the Indian martial art of varma kalai. While AR Rahman composed the music for the original film, Anirudh Ravichander takes over the musical responsibilities for the sequel.
Produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies, "Indian 2" is a Tamil-language vigilante action film directed by S. Shankar, who also co-wrote the screenplay. This sequel continues the story of Senapathy, the aging freedom fighter who turns vigilante to fight against corruption in modern society.
