Heeramandi Season 2: Bhansali's Courtesans return to Netflix

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s critically acclaimed series "Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar" has been renewed for a second season. Known for his grandiose storytelling and intricate visual narratives, Bhansali is set to continue the saga that captivated audiences with its rich depiction of pre-Independence India.

The first season of "Heeramandi" transported viewers to the vibrant, yet tumultuous world of Lahore’s famed courtesan district under British colonial rule. It primarily focused on Mallikajaan (played by Manisha Koirala), the matriarch of an elite house of courtesans, and her power struggle with Fareedan (Sonakshi Sinha), the spirited daughter of her late rival.

In Season 2, the story takes an intriguing turn as the courtesans of Heeramandi navigate their way into the burgeoning Mumbai film industry. This shift promises to explore the intersection of traditional courtesan culture with the glitz and glamour of Bollywood’s early years. Themes of power, freedom, and rebellion will continue to be central, with new character arcs and deeper explorations of existing ones.

Returning cast members include Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha,  Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal. New additions are expected to bring fresh dynamics to the series, enhancing the narrative’s complexity. 

The release date has not yet been set, however, a big announcement was made: as many as 100 dancers, wearing sparkling anarkalis and ghungroos, performed at a flash mob on Mumbai’s Carter Road.
