Mathew Is David’s Son in The Series?

We find out at the end of the series that Matthew (Ashton Cressman) is alive and has been throughout the entire series. Matthew's death was staged by Hayden Payne (Milo Ventimiglia), who thought he was his dad and his former girlfriend Rachel (Britt Lower) was his mom.

In the finale, Rachel reveals to Hayden that Matthew is truly David’s son, as she never visited the fertility clinic; instead, Cheryl (Erin Richards), who was already expecting Matthew, went there.

What Happened At The End Of The Series?

The scene shifts ahead eight months, and although everyone is wearing funeral attire, it’s not for David. We find out that David endured the bullet injury, but his father Lenny (Hugh Thompson) has died. He successfully spent six months with his grandson Matthew, though.

We discover via voiceover that David's sentencing was reversed. Rachel, in the meantime, released a book concerning the entire event. Cheryl welcomed a baby girl and she reconciled with her husband Ronald (Aaron Ashmore) for his previous deceptions.

In the last scene, David and Rachel are shown together observing everyone at the funeral, just before they clasp hands.
