Ileana D’cruz: “My character is not a demure biwi from the ’80s”

Ileana D’cruz, an actress who has solid presence in South movies and now in Hindi cinema too.  Ileana who made her debut in Bollywood with Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi’ opposite Ranbir Kapoor and since then it was no looking back for this wonderful actress. Ileana had given many hits namely, ‘Main Tera Hero’, ‘Rustom’ and ‘Mubarakan’ to name a few, in which she successfully attempted, varied roles.

After playing ‘Royal Heiress’ in Milan Luthria’s action drama ‘Baadshaho’,  the petite beauty is once again paired with dashing Ajay Devgn in forthcoming ‘Raid’.

In Raj Kumar Gupta known who is known for his critically acclaimed movies like ‘Aamir’ and ‘No One Killed Jessica’ is once again will be donning the director’s hat after a gap of 5 years for ‘Raid’.  

The story is set in 1981 Lucknow, talks about one of the biggest income tax heists in India! The producers of the movie shared the subject with Gupta, which immediately caught his attention. The director chose Ileana because according to him she has the perfect combination of innocence and confidence.

Ileana talked about her character in ‘Raid’ in an interview given to a leading daily, “Even though the film is about the raid with Ajay (Devgn) as an income tax officer, I do have a pivotal role. I admit, in terms of footage, it’s not large, but it’s an interesting part of the film. My character is not a demure biwi from the ’80s, she is sensible, speaks her mind and is quite the force behind him. The equation between them comes out in the songs and in the emotional scenes where you realise she is worried for him yet tries to put up a brave front.”

When asked about working with Devgn 3rd time again after ‘Raid’ and ‘Baadshaho’, Ileana commented, “There’s no plan as of now, but I’d love to work with Ajay again because he’s been doing a lot of content-driven films and is a nice, positive person to hang out with. On the sets, he was always chatting with his daughter (Nysa) or son (Yug) and since I was invariably listening in, I now feel I know his whole family.”

Gulshan Kumar & Tseries present, A Panorama Studios Production, Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak, Raid is directed by Raj Kumar Gupta. The film will hit the theatres on 16th March 2018.
