Angry Young Men: The Salim-Javed Heart Touching Story

Review Of Angry Young Men: What It’s About

Salim-Javed merits a chapter in any history of Hindi cinema that is written. Cinema was transformed by two guys. A history of these two individuals would make an excellent documentary. Prominent figures in the industry have narrated the documentary series: Amitabh Bachchan, who became a celebrity because of them, and men like Hrithik Roshan, Yash, Karan Johar, and, of course, the kids of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, who grew up watching them.

Angry Young Men: A Script Analysis of the Film

Salman Khan opens The Salim Javed Story by admitting he is afraid to discuss the two most important figures in Indian cinema. There are three segments to the documentary. The first episode discusses the early lives of the two writers, their journey to Mumbai, their professional setbacks, how they came to be partners, and how they eventually met Salma Khan and Honey Irani, who turned out to be their true partners. A lot of interesting and entertaining incidents are included; Salim Khan handles the humor, while Javed Akhtar keeps it anecdotal.

The celebration of Salim-Javed and his professional high points are highlighted in the second episode. The team that wrote a new chapter in cinema history by turning the page. the tale of the irate young man giving birth to the renowned Amitabh Bachchan, a superstar. After working on 24 films together, the duo's tragic parting is finally addressed in the climax, which also discusses the downfall in the third episode.

This beautifully written series has many stories to treasure from beginning to end. There is a humorous explanation for why Salim Khan's debut movie failed. There is a legend about how they employed an inebriated man to write their name on the movie posters in order to ensure that everyone was aware of them. There are other stories about the families spending time together, including one in which Salman Khan teaches Farhan and Zoya to cycle!

What Works: Angry Young Men

All of the series is excellent for Angry Young Men. From the first credits until the creation of Vijay, Amitabh Bachchan's characters have been referred to by a famous screen name. While most documentaries celebrate the achievements of a star, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar are not afraid to acknowledge and discuss their faults. The fact that other people pointed out the reasons why The Salim-Javed Story didn't work was more realistic. They speak, and they do so in a proper manner. Jaya Bachchan refers to them as brats, whereas Honey Irani deems them haughty. They are overconfident, according to Yash Chopra's then-assistant Ramesh Talwar.

It is too fascinating to watch, and the newspaper and magazine clippings from that era lend legitimacy to whatever it is that everyone is talking about. A pair deemed finished returned carrying Sholay. The pair emphasized the errors in their script that resulted in their first box office failure.

While Javed Akhtar appears overly eager to confess and Salim Khan typically seems lost for words when speaking, maybe mirroring the emptiness he still harbors, both of them are likely struggling with inner shame at carrying the blame for this relationship's breakdown. It's a terrible episode that would crush your heart to see two men who were more than brothers—Arbaaz Khan refers to them as soulmates—literally turn their backs on each other and never look back. (Jaya Bachchan even talks about the split at the end). I didn't know it, but in the last twenty minutes of the video, I started crying and gasping for air. Meanwhile, you'll be left with a shattered smile by Salman Khan's insight when discussing the split!

What Doesn't Work

Nevertheless, this masterfully crafted, elaborately written, and captivating story is cut too short. Three episodes were insufficient to justify Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar's entire journey. Simultaneously, one would anticipate formal accounts of their joint ventures, such as how Don came to be, their pre-writing ideas for Sholay, and the evolution of Deewar. However, the documentary never provides these explanations. It doesn't delve deeply to understand what led to the celebrations of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar or the effort that went into getting there—it just stays on praising them!

They discuss the divide in a tactful and discreet way, but they make no mention of Mr. India, their ultimate aim. Was there any instability when working on that project? Were there arguments, brawls, inhibitions, or creative conflicts? Nothing is dealt with!

Angry Young Men: Final Words

As an extremely docile admirer of Salim-Javed, I didn't have high hopes for this documentary series. It didn't seem like there would be much explanation for how and why they split up. This documentary experienced the same issue. Is my inner Salim-Javed admirer disappointed, though? Not at all! Because this documentary offers so much more than just a story to be treasured. The premature conclusion of the series is the sole letdown! Furthermore, there is no chance for a return given the framework of this documentary series! Unfortunately!
