Netflix announces new thriller with makers of ‘The Family Man'

New Delhi: US streaming service Netflix has announced a new show with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. , best known for the Amazon Prime Video Original The Family Man. The comedy-thriller-crime series titled Guns & Gulaabs. The cast of it has not been announced yet.

Last month, the service said it added 8.3 million subscribers globally in the December quarter thanks to the hit Korean TV series Squid Game, along with two big movie releases: Don't Look Up and Red Notice.

Overall, though, the service with 222 million paid memberships worldwide saw net adds more than half to 18 million in 2021 from 37 million last year. The company follows an accounting year from January to December. Love is Blind from Brazil, My Name from Korea, super hero film Minnal Murali from India, and Danish thriller The Chestnut Man were the big hits this past quarter.

In December, Netflix cut prices by 18% to 60% across all plans in India to attract a broader audience and deepen reach. The move paves the way for more competition between foreign giants, including Disney+ Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video, which have so far led in terms of subscribers, as all players are now clearly focused on volume rather than value.

Netflix's mobile-only plan, previously priced at ₹199 per month, will now be available for ₹149. The basic plan, which allows access to all content on any device, will now cost ₹199 for Rs 499.

The company has announced local productions in collaboration with famous Indian actors and directors such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Hira Mandi), Vishal Bhardwaj (Khofiyeh), Zoya Akhtar (Archie Comics adaptation), Madhuri Dixit (Finding Anamika) and Kapil Sharma, in in addition to the second seasons of blockbusters such as Mismatched, Masaba Masaba, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives.
