Keep that cold away
Everybody loves winters; there is no doubt about that. After the dreaded heat of Delhi summers, winter is a welcome change. But with winter comes our arch enemy, the common cold. Due to the cold weather, we are more likely to catch a cold that has the potential to ruin all our plans. So if you’re suffering from cold, and are not fond of taking medicines, here are some home remedies that can help.
1. Steam it up
This is a sure shot way to open up all that congestion in your chest that makes you feel like all the rocks of the world are on you. While you’re at it, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to make it extra effective.
2. Blow it
No, you dirty mind, I mean, blow your nose. Whenever you feel that your nose it too blocked, blow it. Let all the phlegm out. This will open up your nasal cavity and help you breathe better
3. Honey, honey
Honey is a soothing way to get rid of a sore throat. Mix it with some lemon juice and have it every two-three hours till you feel that the dry throat saying goodbye to you. You can continue having it even after you’re healed.
4. Vapo Rub
Vicks is our mom’s favorite remedy for a stubborn cold. Rub some of it on your chest and around the nose and sleep over night, et voila! The cold is gone. You can also make a vaporub at home. All you need is coconut oil and peppermint essential oil. Mix the two together and store in an airtight container.
It doesn’t sound pleasant but it is an effective and fairly easy way to get rid of congestion in your chest. All you need to do is heat some water, add salt and gargle. This will suck out the phlegm in your throat.
6. Drink up!
Drink hot liquids all day. Avoid drinking anything that isn’t hot. Tomato soup with pepper will hurt your throat a little but will really help in curing that sore throat and cold. This step is even more important because your body needs energy to fight off the virus.
