HDFC Vice President, Siddharth Kiran Sanghavi found murdered

The country was taken aback by the murder of HDFC Vice President, Siddharth Kiran Sanghavi,  who went missing on 5th September. He was found dead in the hilly area near Haji Malang Shrine in Thane district on Monday. A 20 year old named Sarfaraz Shaikh is one of the prime accused in this case. He has been arrested in connection with the murder. Sarfaraz is a driver from Navi Mumbai’s Koperkhairaine.

Police has registered a case under sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 364 (A) (kidnapping for ransom) and 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the Indian Penal Code. Shaikh was arrested on Sunday morning and was produced before the court in Mumbai on Monday and is to stay in police custody till 19th September.

Deputy Commissioner of police Manjunath Singe ( Mumbai Police Spokesperson) while addressing the media said that “the body was found on the Monday morning in Kalyan”. The police has also added that Sheikh is not giving any clear statements and is altering them again and again. Although he has revealed the name of the other three accused in the murder. He claimed that they stabbed Siddharth Kiran Sanghavi in the parking lot inside KamlaMill Compound in Lower Parel. Later all three of them wrapped Sanghavi’s body in a mattress and kept it in Shaikh’s car. Shaikh claimed that it was his responsibility to dispose the body. It is suspected to be a case of professional rivalry.

While Shaikh has been giving contradicting statements in one of his statements he has also said that he wanted to rob Sanghavi, but he had to kill him when he showed resistance. As stated by police his statements are very contradicting and only further investigation will reveal the real sequence of events in this case.

The first breakthrough in this case was the arrest of Sheikh on Sunday morning by the Navi Mumbai police. They arrested him from CBD Belapur. Sheikh is an app based taxi driver and lives in Koperkhairaine.

A police officer said that “Sheikh abandoned the car in Koperkhairaine  after dumping the body near Haji Malang in Kalyan”. The spot where the body was found is about 60 km away from Lower Parel.

Police Inspector Jagdish Kulkarni of the Navi Mumbai Police Crime Branch (central unit) that Sanghavi was caught in a planned effort by the police after they were tipped off by one of their informants who knew Shaikh. Shaikh was seen by the informant while parking Sanghavi’s Maruti Ignis.

Sanghavi had a small family comprising of his wife, parents and a four year old son, He lived in an apartment in Malabar, Mumbai. According to his wife he left home at 8:30 am and did not return, so she approached the NM Joshi Police Station.  He was found missing on September 5 from Kamla Mill Compound, where is office is situated. While tracking him down police observed that his phone was switched off before leaving the compound but the next day, it was switched on for five minutes. Also on Saturday the phone was found switched on which lead the police to the location of the car in Koperkhairain. A knife was recovered from the car, while certain traces of blood were found on the back seat.
