Bollywood vocalist Arijit Singh stunned fans on January 27, 2026, by declaring his retirement from playback singing.

“Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

He accomplished this only days after Maatrubhumi, a track performed by him and Shreya Ghoshal for the Salman Khan film Battle of Galwan, was shared on social media prior to Republic Day.

"There is not one reason behind this, there are several reasons plus I have been trying to do this for a long time. Finally I have gathered the right courage. One of the reasons was simple: I get bored pretty quickly, that's why I keep changing arrangements of the same songs and perform them on stage. So here is the thing, I got bored," he wrote.

Till date, he has contributed his voice to more than 800 songs, merging tracks from movies with his own singles. That's an average of over 53 songs annually. He has created music for movies like Pagglait, featuring Sanya Malhotra.
