Maalik Trailer Out: Rajkummar Rao Shines In An Intense & Fierce Avatar

Kaun Maalik hai? Aur kaun sirf mohre? — That's what Rajkummar Rao's most recent film, Maalik, asks us, and believe us, it's an intense journey into the core of loyalty, power, and ruthless ambition.

Maalik, which takes place in the gritty streets of Allahabad in the 1980s, is not your typical gangster story. Here, Rajkummar Rao sheds every bit of his boy-next-door image to become a fierce mobster who rules with fear.

And guess what? The film also stars Manushi Chhillar stepping into a gritty, never-seen-before role, while Huma Qureshi surprises everyone by grooving in Dil Thaam Ke—that too without charging a penny!

From deadly gang wars to long, unplanned 16-hour shoots that didn’t shake Huma’s spirit, this movie promises everything bold, dark, and real. Curious to know why Rajkummar called this his “most hard-hitting role yet” and why Manushi feels this is her rawest performance? Let’s break it all down.

Rajkummar Rao On His Mobster Role

"This is the first time I'm doing such a hard-hitting role," Rajkummar Rao says of his role. It allowed me to explore a deeper, more passionate aspect of myself as an actor and really pushed me. It was thrilling and difficult to play a multi-layered, vicious mobster, which is what made it so interesting. I'm really excited for the audience to see the realistic, compelling world we've made.

Did Huma Qureshi do Dil Thaam Ke for free?

Huma Qureshi recently revealed that she did the song Dil Thaam Ke completely for free. In an interview, Huma revealed that when producer Jay Shewakramani (whom she affectionately refers to as Jayu) played the song for her, she fell in love with it right away. She said shooting for Maalik felt like a bunch of friends coming together, so she just had to say yes.

Confirming she didn’t charge even a single rupee, Huma said, “Doston se kaise paise le sakte hai (How can you take money from friends?).” Since it was only two days of shooting, she felt there was no need to take payment. Huma also recalled how one of those days unexpectedly turned into a 16-hour shoot because of a complicated shot.

But she didn’t mind at all, saying her work ethic doesn’t allow her to leave just because her shift is over. “If I’m at work, I’ll finish my job and then leave,” she added, calling it one of those intense days on set.

Manushi Chhillar About Maalik Film

Additionally, Manushi Chhillar revealed, "Maalik holds a unique place in my heart. I've never worked with such a talented group before, and director Pulkit and Rajkummar and I couldn't have wished for a finer experience. I had the opportunity to play a role I had never played before, and the movie let me enter a rough, unvarnished, and intense universe. It has been such an exciting adventure, and I sincerely hope that the audience finds it relatable.

Maalik hits theaters on July 11, 2025, and promises to leave you shaken with its brutal story of power and survival.
