Bengali Khadaan Day 4: Dev Leads with Rs 4.25 Cr, Shontaan Behind

The Bengali film industry has been buzzing with excitement as two major movies, Khadaan and Shontaan, battle it out at the box office this Christmas.

Directed by Soojit Dutta, Khadaan emerged as the most-awaited Bengali movie of the year. Fueled by remarkable performances from the main cast and supported by a solid plot, the film offers a total entertainment experience and is a true paisa-vasool movie, featuring ample romance, music and dance, excitement, action, and some violence.

Khadaan, featuring Dev and Jisshu Sengupta, has fulfilled the expectations tied to its launch and made a significant mark in Bengali cinema history.

Released today, the film has achieved a record box office collection of Rs 1 crore on its opening day, based on estimates. The movie capitalized on the success of its extensive promotions showcasing the full star cast headed by Dev, achieving 100 sold-out shows on its opening day in theaters throughout the state.

 

A premiere of the film at 2am was fully packed in Raiganj. Supporters of Bengal's current superstar Dev were spotted on the streets at midnight, joyfully playing the dhaak, to enthusiastically welcome the film. Dev additionally posted a video showcasing the midnight fan excitement on his social media account, conveying his happiness and vowing to share early reviews of the movie.

Today, screenings of Khadaan in popular theaters throughout Calcutta, including Navina, Priya, INOX South City, Ajanta, Arti, Star Theatre, Star Mall, Asoka, and Atindra (Barrackpore), have been sold out.

In anticipation of the Christmas holiday, the Bengali film industry delighted fans with several new movie releases. In the midst of box office rivalries, the two films that have especially captured everyone's interest are - 'Khadaan' and 'Shontaan'.

Khadaan (Bengali) First Sunday Box Office Earnings

After a long time, actor-turned-politician Dev (Deepak Adhikari) has made a comeback to the original massy entertainer style with his newly-launched film 'Khadaan'.

Khadaan, directed by Soojit Dutta and produced by Nispal Singh's Surinder Films alongside Dev-led Dev Entertainment Ventures, stars Dev, Jisshu Sengupta, Anirban Chakrabarti, Idhika Paul, and Barkha Bisht Sengupta, among others. From the trailer to the songs, the Bengali-language action-drama created a lot of excitement among viewers.

Amid great excitement, the Dev starrer debuted to largely favorable reviews from both fans and critics. According to Sacnilk, the film earned approximately Rs 68 lakhs on its release day, then saw a considerable increase in ticket sales and sold-out shows during the weekend. According to the update, Khadaan earned Rs 76 lakhs on Saturday and Rs 1.12 cr on Sunday, bringing the total net collection to Rs 2.56 cr in three days.

After the tremendous success of 'Parineeta' (2019), Raj Chakrabarty, his actress wife Subhashree Ganguly, and Ritwick Chakraborty collaborated once more for the heartfelt drama 'Shontaan'. Helmed by Raj, the movie additionally includes veteran actors Mithun Chakraborty, Anashua Majumdar alongside Kharaj Mukherjee and Sohini Sengupta in significant roles.

With a good amount of excitement, Shontaan debuted with a respectable earning of Rs 11 lakhs. The movie experienced an increase thanks to favorable word of mouth, earning approximately Rs 18 lakhs on Saturday and Rs 31 lakhs on Sunday. Currently, the total net collection is projected to reach Rs 60 lakhs during the opening weekend.

According to the figures from the opening weekend, it is evident that Khadaan has taken the lead in this box office competition, surpassing Shontaan by a significant margin of approximately Rs 1.96 crore.
