Who was Baba Siddique? Everything you need to know about the NCP leader who was killed in Mumbai

Ex-NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was previously a Minister in Maharashtra and a follower of Ajit Pawar, was killed in Mumbai on Saturday evening.

Based on initial reports, it is believed that a group of three to four individuals discharged two to three bullets towards the NCP politician near Colgate ground in Nirmal Nagar, Bandra (East), outside the office of his MLA son Zeeshan Siddiqui. He was quickly brought to Lilavati Hospital, where he passed away soon after reaching there.

"Somewhere between two and three shots were fired." A report saying that further inquiry is being conducted as teams have promptly reached the location. Just 15 days ago, Siddique had been threatened with death and was given 'Y' category security.

Who Was Baba Siddique?

Baba Siddique, hailing from Bihar, became a member of the venerable party during his teenage years. He started his political journey as a teenager by becoming a member of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student faction of the Indian National Congress.

Shortly after that, he was chosen as a Municipal Corporator in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. He was elected as an MLA from Vandre West Vidhan Sabha Constituency for three terms in 1999, 2004, and 2009, and also held the position of Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies, FDA, and Labour.

In February of this year, he made a significant change by resigning from the Congress and joining the Nationalist Congress Party under the leadership of Ajit Pawar.

Thinking about his exit, Siddique stated, "My situation in the Congress was similar to how curry leaves are employed to add flavor to dishes." I was treated the same way within the Congress Party. Siddique's son, Zeeshan, was a Congress MLA for the Bandra (East) assembly constituency in Mumbai but was ousted in August for suspected anti-party actions.

Siddique, aka Bandra Boy, was famous for hosting lavish Iftar gatherings that were graced by renowned Bollywood celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.

Siddique was also recognized for resolving the well-known feud between Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. According to the reports, both the superstars were engaged in a fiery debate in 2008. Following the incident, the pair steered clear of each other at major gatherings. Nonetheless, the conflict ended in 2013 at Siddique's Iftar Party with the presence of distinguished figures in the sector. Both of the Khans finally reunited, embraced each other, and put an end to their five-year feud, all under one roof.

Even though he had little involvement in the movie business, his skill in reuniting two major stars following a contentious quarrel solidified his position in the entertainment field.
