National Cancer Awareness Day

It is estimated that there are about 2.9 million cases of cancer in the country with 1.1 million new cases being reported annually. Two-thirds of cancer cases in the country are diagnosed at the advanced stage. To spread awareness about cancer and its cure November 7 will be observed as National Cancer Awareness Day all over the country. The five most recurrent cancers in India are breast cancercervical canceroral cancer, lung and colorectal cancer. The underprivileged sections of the society are unable to receive help and in such cases NGOs come as guardian angels for many.

  1. Cancer Patients Aids Association- CPAA, one of the oldest and largest cancer NGO's of India. It was established in 1969 and has worked for the underprivileged cancer patients who cannot benefit from the best treatments that medical science has to offer due to the poor living standards. CPAA focuses on  the Total Management of Cancer and are reaching forward to help cancer patients from all walks of life in every possible way.

CPAA not only go together with the Medical Oncologists, Physicians and Hospitals but also focuses on awareness, early detection, cancer insurance, support to treatment, supervision, counseling, therapy, support and research. CPAA has worked all over the country and cured many by providing their support, services and help.

  1. Helpage India- Helpage India is an NGO that helps the old age people and its Cancer support cell works effectively in providing cancer treatment to them. Cancer treatment in our country is highly priced and majority of elders are not covered by any form of medical insurance. Therefore HelpAge India provides analgesic care to end-stage cancer patients in affiliation with a number of reliable and capable cancer hospitals and organizations. These partners also organize cancer awareness and cancer detection camps. They also work on providing home visits post cancer treatment along with therapy for the patient and counseling for the family. Over 99,000 treatments have been supported since 1998.
  2. Indian Cancer Society- Indian Cancer Society was established in 1951 by Dr. D.J. Jussawalla and Mr. Naval Tata as India's first charitable, non-profit, National Organization for Awareness, Detection, Cure and Survivorship of those affected with cancer. 

    Indian Cancer Society has been doing some excellent work in fighting cancer across India especially  for thousands of underprivileged cancer patients in the country. The NGO cures patients from all over the country. They have been providing help to patients who are undergoing extreme poverty and cannot even afford two meals a day. Hence this NGO has opened gates for many who cannot help themselves, so  ICS that receives funding from various organizations comes to their help.
  3. New India- New India, is a self-funded NGO, founded by Vijay Tata and Amrita Tata. Vijay and Amrita have been associated with a Cancer Care & Cure Hospital in Bangalore and provide FREE treatment to the poor with their New India Initiative. With a assurance of Rs. 200 crores towards the cause, the couple is contributing 50 acre land worth Rs. 100 crores and an additional Rs. 100 crores towards construction of the Hospital over a period of time.
  4. Cancer Aid Society- It is a Non- Profit National Level Social Secular NGO working for cancer control in line with the National Cancer Control Program. The NGO works in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmadabad and Lucknow. It also has a Day Care Centre for Cancer Patients.  The Cancer Society of India aims at providing Cancer treatment to the underprivileged sections of the society with an aim to decrease the rate of deaths in India due to cancer.
