What happens when a village decides what’s “right” for you — without asking you once?
Pennum Porattum begins with that uncomfortable question and slowly pulls the viewer into a world where noise, judgment, and tradition overpower logic and empathy.
With moments that make you smile, pause, and feel uneasy all at once, Pennum Porattum invites you to look beyond surface-level drama and question who really pays the price when society decides to “fix” someone.

What Is Pennum Porattum All About?
The film focuses on three main characters: Charulatha, a determined woman forced into an unwanted marriage by the village, including her boyfriend, Baburaj; Suttu, Baburaj's dog, wrongfully labeled as aggressive; and Gopalan Master, a past leader who became a legendary figure in the village of Pattada.
The narrative explores the harsh treatment endured by Charulatha and Suttu, as well as the insane glorification of violence present in the town. Ultimately, Suttu chooses to depart the village alongside the other animals in the community.
Pennum Porattum Release Date
After its premieres at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in 2025, Rajesh Madhavan’s directorial debut Pennum Porattum (Girl and The Fools Parade) is scheduled to hit theaters on February 6.
Written by first-time writer Ravishankar, the movie showcases a cast of more than 100 performers, primarily newcomers sourced from the Palakkad villages where filming took place.
Why is Pennum Porattum So Special?
Pennum Porattum doesn’t seem like the creation of a debut director. Creating something this disordered is one difficulty. Carrying it out with such accuracy, particularly with a mostly unfamiliar cast, is something else entirely. Rajesh Madhavan executes it with assurance and style.
What is left is a movie that is amusing, intense, and profoundly captivating, one that stays with you long after the commotion fades away.
Pennum Porattum is more than just a film — it’s a mirror held up to collective thinking and silent suffering. A rare story that lingers, asking tough questions long after the screen goes dark.
