Actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra has said that she will be making her digital debut in a series and she is excited to see how she will be greeted by audiences in the streaming space.
Although it is too early to reveal details, the actress said, she aims to start filming the project in 2022. “I said yes to something that I will start in the middle of next year. It needs a lot of preparation, which will be another announcement. I opened OTT in many ways for many actors, including myself, ”she told.
"It takes a long time, so if it's an outlet, you really have to justify it and be synonymous with your brand. So something has been presented to me. It will be interesting for me to see it in that space."
Shilpa will be the last '90s star to venture into the digital space. Her contemporaries Madhuri Dixit and Raveena Tandon are also set to make their digital debut with the Netflix series "Finding Anamika" and "Aranyak" respectively.
While Sushmita Sen has already made a successful debut for the series with the 2020 show "Aarya".
Aside from the OTT project, the 46-year-old actress said that she also signed a new movie that will be released on covers later this year.
Shilpa is currently preparing for the release of "Hungama 2", which features Paresh Rawal.
The Priyadarshan-directed comedy is scheduled to premiere on Disney + Hotstar on July 23.
Although the comedy marks her first film in 14 years, her comeback film was supposed to be "Nikamma" directed by Saber Khan, said the actress, best known for starring in such films as "Life in Metro" and "Dhadkan.".
The romantic comedy, which also starred Abhimanyu Dasani and Shirley Setia, has been rejected for the pandemic.
"The first movie I answered yes to is 'Nikamma'. It's a big part. I thought if I had to go back, it had to be something different. We're looking forward to the theatrical release of this movie."
She added: "The release of 'Hungama 2' happened first. I wish I could go back 70mm, but OTT is great for us as actors because there are some people who prefer to watch movies at home because of the pandemic."
Both "Hungama 2" and "Nikamma" represent a departure from the trend of actors who returned to the screen with heavy and socially relevant films.
Shilpa said that she tends to entertain the audience and, unlike other stars, she doesn't take herself "too seriously."
"I really think actors take themselves too seriously. But I don't. I'm here to entertain people. The movie should be well received, it's never about you. There are so many great multi-show movies that I show. I feel like, "I don't think this will work for me.''
She added, "I've learned over the years, that if the content works, the actor works and grows bigger ... Both films that I chose after a long vacation worked with me on that front."
