Thug Life Ban In Karnataka?
A significant setback for Thug Life is that it won't launch in Karnataka on Thursday. Haasan's comments during a promotional event in Chennai triggered a strong response in Karnataka, leading the KFCC to declare that the film would not be shown in the state unless Haasan issues an apology. He has declined to do that. In response, Haasan's co-founded production firm petitioned the High Court for protection for the movie's release.
The actor-politician was chastised by the Karnataka High Court for failing to issue an apology for his claim that "Kannada was born out of Tamil." A "simple apology might have settled the matter," the statement goes.,” the HC remarked, “Freedom of expression should not reach the point of offending someone’s feelings, especially those of the masses... Once words are spoken, they cannot be withdrawn, only atoned for….you cannot unmix the scrambled egg.”
The attorney for Haasan argued that the actor's remarks were not uttered with “malice,” and therefore did not require an apology. “It is definitely not ego,” he contended and suggested that the movie’s screening would not be demanded in Karnataka until the matter is settled through discussions with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce.
As the box office battle begins, all eyes are on whether comedy or action will win hearts — or if both films will emerge as winners in their own right.
