Inside Out 2 becomes top-grossing animated film: See the Top 10!

Pixar Animation Studios is celebrating a major achievement with its latest release, Inside Out 2, which has reached a remarkable milestone as the highest-grossing animated film of all time. The film has garnered widespread acclaim from audiences around the world, indicating that Riley’s emotional journey resonates across different cultures. Following a slow start at the beginning of the summer, Inside Out 2 has significantly boosted theater attendance.

The film has reached a historic landmark by earning $1.46 billion globally, surpassing the previous record set by Disney’s 2019 release, Frozen II. Inside Out 2 revisits Riley’s emotional landscape, introducing new emotions like anxiety and depression for the first time. Alan Bergman, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, remarked, “Inside Out 2 is a quintessentially Pixar film, and it’s been amazing to see how it has connected so deeply with people all over the world.” He continued, “We knew it was really special, but no one could have predicted it would reach these record-breaking heights. We’re grateful to all the fans who have made this the biggest animated film ever.”

Pixar expressed its gratitude for the milestone with a celebratory post on X, saying, “We’re filled with Joy! Thanks to every fan around the world for making Inside Out 2 the biggest animated movie of all time.”

In addition to its record-setting achievement, the film has become the 13th highest-grossing film globally and has earned $600 million domestically. It began its box office run with strong numbers, quickly earning $1 million within 19 days of its release. As of now, it holds the title of the highest-grossing film of 2024 to date.

Inside Out 2 has topped the all-time animated film chart, previously held by Frozen II, which earned $1.451 billion when it was released in 2019. Frozen II now occupies the second spot, followed by The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination and Universal, which earned $1.361 billion at the box office.

Other notable films in the top 10 animated movies include the original Frozen, which grossed $1.274 billion, and Pixar’s Incredibles 2, which made $1.242 billion. Illumination’s Minions also performed well with $1.157 billion, while Toy Story 4 totaled $1.072 billion. Despicable Me 3 earned $1.032 billion, and Finding Dory rounded out the list with $1 billion.

Interestingly, seven of the top 10 highest-grossing animated films are produced by Pixar or Walt Disney Animation Studios, underscoring the dominance of these studios in the animated film industry.
