Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan's most recent film, had a phenomenal opening weekend. The film, which opened in theatres on Thursday (September 7) in time for Janmashtami, broke all prior records and became the greatest Hindi opening of all time, surpassing SRK's most recent film, Pathaan.
Following a record-breaking advance booking, Jawan earned Rs 75 crore net in India, according to a report in the trade web Sacnilk. On the other side, Pathaan, SRK's final release this year, made Rs 57 crore net on its opening day.
On its first day, Jawan made Rs 65 crore net in Hindi, Rs 5 crore net in Tamil, and Rs 5 crore net in Telugu. On Thursday, September 7, it had a Hindi occupancy rate of 58.67% overall.
Ramesh Bala, a trading analyst, said on X (formerly known as Twitter) at the time that "Jawan is looking at Rs 150 crore plus Day 1 opening worldwide (sic)."
The Atlee-directed film follows Sunny Deol's hit Gadar 2 in terms of popularity. However, Jawan has significantly outperformed Gadar 2's opening day and Independence Day box office results.
Gadar 2 by Sunny Deol made over Rs 40 crore on its opening day and a staggering Rs 55.40 crore on July 4th.
