Paatal lok: A Dark Reality

You all must have heard a lot of new web series of Amazon Prime, Paatal Lok. The series is released on 15th May and is gaining a lot of popularity these days. It is a thriller crime series on Amazon Prime produced by clean state films. Its teaser was released on 27th April and trailer on 5th may, since then it was gaining a lot of popularity.

Few are comparing it with the ASUR series on VOOT after seeing its trailer. The series revolves around the Delhi cop who lands the case of assassination attempt gone wrong. Inspector Hathi Ram Chaudhary is a cynical, washed-out Delhi cop whose career becomes stagnant due to politics and not getting any good case to work upon. But until one day, when he was appointed for a high case profile of famous media reporter Sanjeev Mehra murder assassination. The case turns into a Dark Mystery thriller that leads him to the Dark underworld. He was not aware that he was stuck into bigger conspiracy and the case was not so easy as he was thinking it to be. Hathi Ram instinct told him to suspect and dig into the case and know the actual case and he lands into the past of each of the four suspects and got to know what leads them into the place. He discovers startling truths and insights that eventually helped him to rediscover his responsibilities as a cop, his place in the larger scheme of things, and the larger meaning of life.

Paatal Lok received popularity and positive reviews. The day of its release, Anurag Kashyap tweeted that Paatal Lok is the best crime thriller to come out of this country, it comes from the realm of India. Saibal Chatterjee gave this series 4 stars and wrote that Paatal Lok is its own beast. It plunges, unflinching, into an abyss and shines a light on the darkness at its heart." Jaideep Ahlawat, Neeraj Kabi, and Swastika Mukherjee are praised for their performances. Namrata Joshi of The Hindu writes that the performances are "powerful all-around", adding that on display are "the pent up prejudices against Muslims, the dehumanization of the lower castes and the rage and angst of the have-nots against the haves."

In a review in the Film Companion, Anupama Chopra praises Anushka Sharma for producing Paatal Lok and wrote "Paatal Lok is a tightly knit thriller our perception of the characters shifts as the story unravels so that it becomes impossible to decide the good, bad and ugly".
