64th Filmfare Award, 2019- Highlights: An evening of love, honor and fun

The 64th Filmfare Awards was all about love, glamour and smiles this year. The power couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor won Best Actor (Female) and Best Actor (Male) Award respectively. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, the most popular Bollywood couple also made their dynamic presence and the four of them were seen chilling together.

The famous award show has been tradition and a legacy for generations. The show saw  ‘Raazi’, directed by Meghna Gulzar bag five awards, including the honours for Best Director, Best Film (Popular) and Best Actor (Female) to Alia Bhatt. The show was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan and he swept away the heart of the audience with his spectacular hosting skills as always. It was a night of unending fun, performances, acceptance speeches and glamorous red carpet appearances.

Love Confession

The Filmfare night turned magical when the long dating couple, Alia and Ranbir picked the 64th Vimal Elaichi Filmfare Awards 2019 stage to confess their love for each other publically for the first time. The audience was in awe and applauded as Alia in her acceptance speech professed her love for Ranbir saying, “Tonight is all about love; there, my special one, I love you!". Ranbir, on the other hand, showed his affection by giving a chaste kiss on Alia’s cheek and then headed to receive his award for his performance in ‘Sanju’ (Sanjay Dutt’s biopic). 

Best Debut Actor Awards 

Ishaan Khatter and Sara Ali Khan have been in headlines for quite long and yet again they made it bigger by taking home the Best Debut Actor (Male) and Best Debut Actor (Female) awards, respectively. Sara was highly appreciated for her performance in the disaster-drama ‘Kedarnath’ which made her win the award. While Ishaan won the award for his performance in the romantic film ‘Dhadak’.

Sara has received great appreciation for her work and has already moved on to her third film. Owing to her success and skills she has become one of the most popular and in-demand actresses after giving two back-to-back hits last year.

Critics Best Actor

This year saw a tough competition for the Critics Best Award between leading stars. The Critics Best Actor in Leading Role (Male) was a tie between Ranveer Singh and Ayushmann Khurrana who shared the award for their exceptional performances in ‘Padmaavat’ and 'Andhadhun' respectively. Best Actor in a Supporting Role Award also saw a tie between the rising actors Vicky Kaushal and Gajraj Rao for their performances in ‘Sanju’ and ‘Badhaai Ho’ respectively.

Performances

Shah Rukh Khan gave a kick start to the show with his wit and humour which was followed by some magnificent performances by Janhvi Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Kriti Sanon and Vicky Kaushal that made the evening a memorable event for both the live and worldwide audience that keenly watched the show on their TV sets. Vicky gave a performance giving a tribute to the legendary star Amitabh Bachchan while Ranveer staged a live gig and got the audience thrilled as he rapped to his popular numbers. On the other hand, Janhvi Kapoor gave her debut performance at the Filmfare followed by Kriti’s jig to several musical tracks that got the audience off their seat and cheering them on. It was a night that saw the millennial of the Indian Bollywood industry take up the stage and declared the dawn of a new era.
