From emotional sports dramas to gripping adaptations, these films deserve more love and recognition than they received at the box office. Let’s take a look at some of the 2024 Bollywood films that may have missed your attention but are absolutely worth watching.

Whether it's Ajay Devgn's Maidaan or Alia Bhatt's Jigra, these films prove that sometimes the best stories aren’t the loudest ones. So grab your popcorn and get ready to discover the underrated gems of Bollywood!

1. Maidaan

Maidaan

Ajay Devgn's film Maidaan hit theaters on April 11. This film was launched in three languages. The expenditure on producing the film was approximately 250 crore, yet it managed to generate only 68 crore globally at the box office. Thus, it is included in the list of bollywood underrated movies of 2024.

Maidaan is inspired by the true story of coach Syed Abdul Rahim. He was the designer of Indian Football. In the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games, the unexpected Indian Football Team secured the gold medal, and since then, we have not achieved gold in Football again.

The cinematography and direction of Maidaan earned every bit of acclaim. It is also among the most overlooked films of 2024. The Indian viewers are not able to appreciate this wonderful movie.

2. Chandu Champion

Chandu Champion

Kartik Aryan features as the main character in Chandu Champion, which hit theaters on June 14, 2024. The movie draws its inspiration from the remarkable life of Indian Paralympian gold medalist Murlikant Petkar.

It had a budget of Rs 140 crores but managed to make only Rs 89 crores at the box office. Director Kabir Khan encountered another disappointment following 83, as his sports drama did not achieve success.

Even though it had an engaging narrative and starred an overlooked hero, the film was eclipsed by the triumph of Munjya and Kalki in 2898 AD, resulting in its disappointing box office results.

3. Sarfira

Sarfira

The Hindi adaptation of Suriya’s National Award-winning movie Soorarai Pottru was unsuccessful at the box office. Entitled Sarfira and featuring Akshay Kumar as the main character, the movie premiered on July 12.

It narrates the tale of a brave individual who will not surrender to life's obstacles. The movie conveys a powerful message and acts as a source of motivation. Guided by the same director with the same fervor as the original, Sarfira was equally powerful as Soorarai Pottru.

Nonetheless, although the original gained significant acclaim, the remake had difficulty drawing in viewers. Produced with a budget of Rs 30 crores, Sarfira, one of the bollywood underrated movies, generated just Rs 30 crores, not achieving notable success.

Produced on a budget of Rs 100 crores, the movie could only generate Rs 48 crores globally. Nonetheless, Khel Khel Mein warranted more. It possessed significant potential and was a strong remake, providing both unforgettable experiences and an important message.

Regrettably, this one of the bollywood underrated movies achieved greater success on streaming services than in cinemas.

5. Jigra

Jigra

Jigra, featuring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, hit theaters on October 10. Produced on a budget of Rs 80 crores, the movie generated just Rs 50 crores globally. Although it was skillfully directed, Jigra did not receive acknowledgment in cinemas.
