The latest season features more intense gameplay, heightened tension, and emphasizes Gi-hun's mental condition as he battles depression and the fallout from his decisions. This season will investigate the power relations in the game and examine themes of vengeance, ethics, and the corrupting influence of money.
Does Player 456 Gi-hun die in Squid Game Season 3?
Yes, Gi-hun (Player 456) dies in the final episode of Squid Game Season 3. In the last game, the remaining three players — Gi-hun, Myung-gi (Player 333), and Jun-hee’s baby (now Player 222) — must face off. Gi-hun had promised Jun-hee he would protect her baby, but the game rules say someone must die in each round.
Myung-gi pretends to side with other players to eliminate Gi-hun and the baby but ends up betraying them all. Myung-gi attempts to murder his own child in order to win the last round. Gi-hun tricks him, fights back, and both nearly fall. Myung-gi dies — but since no one pressed the game button before the fight, it doesn't count.
Gi-hun ultimately presses the button and gives up his life to allow the baby to win the game. Thus, Gi-hun fulfills his pledge and dies a hero.
How Does Squid Game Season 3 End?
The conclusion of Squid Game Season 3 is dramatic. The games appear to be done after Gi-hun gives his life to save Jun-hee's child, but that doesn't last long.
Pink Guard No-eul and his brother Jun-ho attempt to stop the Frontman (In-ho) from ordering the island to be evacuated. Although Jun-ho confronts In-ho, he is unable to kill him. The island is devastated, but the masterminds manage to get away. The servants and No-eul enter the getaway boat covertly.
Six months later, No-eul visits a former player she saved. Jun-ho, now no longer a cop, returns home to find Jun-hee’s baby and a bank card with all the prize money. Meanwhile, In-ho visits Gi-hun’s family in America, handing them his belongings and a card with his winnings from Season 1.
In a surprise ending, it's revealed that the deadly games are still running — this time in the U.S., where actress Cate Blanchett appears as the new Ddakji recruiter.
With Gi-hun's final act of sacrifice and a shocking U.S. twist, Squid Game Season 3 ends with heartbreak — and a haunting reminder: the game is far from over.
