Anurag Kashyap Calls Bollywood Toxic
Famed director Anurag Kashyap has officially departed from Mumbai, distancing himself from Bollywood, which he now characterizes as "toxic." After previously alluding to his intention to move to South India, Kashyap has now confirmed his exit, expressing increasing dissatisfaction with the industry's fixation on box office figures over creative narratives.
An insider connected to the director disclosed that he has probably made Bangalore his home, although Kashyap himself has opted to keep the precise location a secret. His choice to leave Mumbai arises from disappointment with the Hindi film sector, which he feels has grown more cautious and risk-averse.
In an interview, Kashyap revealed that he has recently made the initial rent payment for his new residence outside Mumbai. Contemplating his choice, he noted that the sector's unyielding quest for Rs 500- Rs 800 crore hits has eroded its creative essence
He expressed sorrow that creativity has been sidelined, as actors favor opulence over impactful films, while producers and streaming services avoid daring narratives. He stated, “I no longer wish to associate with those in the film industry. “The field has turned excessively harmful.”

The Hindi version of Footage, a Malayalam film from 2024 featuring Manju Warrier, is being presented by Anurag Kashyap. The movie, an experimental thriller using found footage and set amid the pandemic, premiered in August 2024. The Hindi dubbed version is set to come out on March 7, 2025, more than six months following the original release.
He is also showcasing the Kannada film Vaghachipani (Tiger’s Pond), which was featured at the Berlin Film Festival, along with the Tamil coming-of-age drama Bad Girl. As an actor, he boasts an exciting array of projects including One 2 One (Tamil), Dacoit: A Love Story (Telugu-Hindi), and Delulu (Malayalam). His cop movie, Kennedy, is also set to be released this year.
At the same time, he made his acting debut in the Malayalam film industry with Rifle Club, an action thriller based in Kerala. Featuring Dileesh Pothan, Vani Viswanath, and Vijayaraghavan, Anurag Kashyap plays the merciless Dayanand Bare.
