Anushka Sharma never knew that dating cricketer will become a curse for her. Ever since Anushka Sharma began dating Virat Kohli, she has become the unlucky mascot for Virat. All the blame for the cricket star’s poor performances being directed at her. While some claimed she was “distraction lady” for him, others deemed her to be unlucky for the Indian team captain. She was also blamed for poor selection processes. Some fans accused her of being a part of lowkey team meetings.
Throughout these unwarranted attacks, the film star has always maintained complete silence, steering clear of any controversy. However, after ex-cricketer Farokh Engineer, recently suggested that she was served tea by the BCCI selectors during the World Cup, Anushka decided to finally catch the bull by the horns and take on every blame.
After facing so much criticism for offering her support to Indian skipper and hubby Virat Kohli, she finally breaks her silence. The actress was recently blamed for her appearance at the pavilion. She has finally voiced out and outspoken about her stand. She has repeatedly made herself clear by slamming such reports and baseless rumors against her. Anushka took to her Instagram handle and shared an open letter that slammed the media houses for smearing her reputation with false accusations.
She wrote in her letter, “I have stayed quiet through all the times I was blamed for the performance of my then boyfriend, now husband, Virat, and continue to take the blame for the most baseless things involving Indian cricket. My name was used for false stories to make it look like the board was being bothered for my tickets or security, etc when, in reality, I bought my own tickets for matches and flights and I still kept quiet.”
She continued saying, “I was asked to stand in a group photo with the High Commissioner's wife despite my hesitation to be in it, and a huge issue was created over this, blaming me for intentionally wanting to be part of it and the said event. even though I was invited for it. An official clarification was issued by the boards on the same and I still kept quiet.”
On the recent comment by Engineer “getting Anushka Sharma cups of tea”, she added, "The latest version of these ill-intended lies is that I was being served tea by selectors at matches during the World Cup! I came to one game during the World Cup and sat in the family box and not the selectors' box, as reported, but when has the truth mattered when it's about convenience!
“If you have a comment on the selection committee and their qualifications, please do so as it’s your opinion, but do not drag me into it to substantiate your claim or sensationalise your opinion. I refuse to allow anyone from using my name in such conversations."
Being a member of Bollywood industry, the industry comes out in her support. Seeing the reply in the letter, her friends and colleagues came for her support.
Ranveer Singh mentioned, "Hahahaha! hard hard ... Diyela hai ... ". Parineeti Chopra wrote, "Love you anushka! And coffee > tea."; while Arjun Kapoor mentioned, "She hits it out of the park… massive strike huge hit it’s outta here!!!”
Anushka’s note continued saying “I have led my life, built my own career with the utmost dignity and I am not going to compromise that for anything. Maybe, it's hard for some to believe that, because I am a self-made, independent woman who only happens to be the wife of a cricketer and for the records. I drink coffee."
After the Anushka's move to instagram, Farokh Engineer apologised and spoke to a leading news website. He said, “I just said it in jest and a mountain is being made out of a molehill. Poor Anushka has been dragged into it, she is a lovely girl. Virat Kohli is a brilliant captain and coach Ravi Shastri is extremely good. I apologise to Anushka.”
