Sugarcane Ganesha is ready to fill your lives with sweetness this Ganesh Chaturthi

Around 5 tons of sugarcane was used this year to create an idol of Lord Ganesha on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi. We all are aware of the tradition, where after 21 days of prayers, the idol of Lord Ganesha is immersed in water and we begin new and fresh. But this year the people of Bengaluru decided to do something that has never been done before.

Sathya Sai Trust of Bengaluru took this step and decided to go eco-friendly this year and create a sugarcane Ganesha idol, avoiding the non- eco-friendly Plaster of Paris (POP) and colours. POP and colours pollute the sea animals and are not at all eco-friendly.

What is even more interesting that this Ganesha Chaturthi Bappa won’t drown but be mixed in nature in a different way. Post pooja, after the 21 day long prayers, the Sugarcane used in making the Ganesha idol will be distributed to the people.

Mohan Raj a member of the trust told that it is another effort of trying to do something new and eco-friendly. That they do not wish to pollute the seas and so the sugarcane of the Ganesha Idol will be distributed amongst the devotees.

Avinash who was a part of the team that made this magnificent Ganesha idol told that it took them 1 and half months to finally finish this piece of spiritually inclined art.

With the rise of awareness about sustainable development and eco-friendly products, even in Hyderabad people are going for mud idols rather than those made from Plaster of Paris.

There has been a sharp rise in eco-friendly Ganesha idols this year. Eco-friendly idols are those made from clay, natural fibres, papers and other biodegradable materials.

Satish Kumar a local shopkeeper who has been selling eco-friendly idols for past four years, shared his views and said that there is huge demand of eco-friendly Ganesha idols this year. And it is really good to see that people are becoming more eco-friendly. The best part is such idols are affordable as well as eco-friendly.

Even in Bhubaneshwar, many children were seen laying their hands and working on making eco-friendly idols. As per the reports, they used clay to sculpt the eco-friendly idols. They watered the sculpture after completing it. This session was organized in a preschool. The initiative was a part of the learning process to develop ideas of environment protection at young age.

Not just this TV Sudhakar, a resident of Mumbai is doing his bit by contributing first 1,000 idols made from clay for free. He feels that he must do his share in making people aware of the importance of eco-friendly idols.

The entire country is focusing towards developing eco-friendly products and this is making people feel responsible for their nature.

Ganesha Chaturthi will begin from September 13 and the excitement for the most awaited festival can be seen as the markets are filled with Ganesha idols.
