One of the most important organs of the body is our heart. It is actually our life source and it also ensures that all your other body organs are healthy and in good shape. So let us learn some interesting facts about this hardworking organ that works day and night regardless we are awake or sleeping-
  1. When two people are in love both of their hearts will start syncing together if they look into each other’s eyes for three minutes.
  2. Men who are cheating or having an affair are more likely to die of a cardiac arrest while they are having sex with the other person.
  3. An average kitchen faucet will need to be turned on full speed for at least 45 years to exactly equate with the amount of blood pumped by your heart in an average lifetime.
  4. Every twenty-four hours the heart produces enough energy to drive a heavy vehicle, for instance, a truck for around 32 km. When totaled for a lifetime it is equal to driving a truck to the moon and back.
  5. The average human adult heart weighs only about 315 grams or 11 ounces but it pumps over 7,500 liters of blood every day through about 17 km of blood vessels every day. A huge amount for something so small don’t you think?
  6. Do you know who invented stethoscope and why? It was a French physician Rene Laennec (1781-1826) who invented it as he thought it was not appropriate to place his ear over the breast of his female patient who has a large bosom.
  7. Our heart is the most hardworking muscle in our entire body. It does the most physical than any other muscle in our body during our lifetime. The heart’s power output ranges from 1-5 watts average. Although our quadriceps can produce 100 watts for a matter of few minutes the output of 1watt for 80 years is equivalent to 2.5 gigajoules.
  8. Cocaine is said to lead to heart attacks or strokes in otherwise healthy people as it affects the heart’s electrical activity and causes spasming of the arteries.
  9. Men and women have different rates of heartbeats and women are way ahead when it comes to this. On an average, a man’s heart beats approximately 70 times a minute and a woman’s heart beats at about 78 times in one minute.
  10. Keep the negativity at bay as strong negative emotions and stress can actually break a person’s heart. This condition is called "takotsubo's cardiomyopathy" or "broken heart syndrome." This generally happens with women who are in their postmenopausal state.
