Inside the wedding, mehendi and reception of newlyweds, cricketer Zaheer Khan and actress Sagarika Ghatge
In a stunning case of life-imitating-art, actress Sagarika who dates a cricketer in her debut film Chak De! India married her real life cricketer boyfriend, Zaheer Khan. The couple had a quiet court marriage on November 23 and threw a reception dinner later. We have the pictures!
The bride's bestie Vidya Malavade shared that the difference in religion is no cause for concern for this young couple. “Both their families are very understanding and want what's best for the boy and girl. Sagarika's parents would rather see her settling down with a good human being than someone who follows the same religion. After meeting Zaheer, her parents said he is perfect for her,” gushed a friend of the bride.
Sagarika wore a Sabyasachi sari and Zaheer wore a blue Raghavendra Rathore bandhgala with jewelled buttons and white breeches for the court registration. Vidya stood behind the bride as she signed on the documents making it official. The couple threw a grand reception dinner for close friends like Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and wife Hazel Keech.
A tasteful mehendi and sangeet then took place, followed by a grand dance party on Sunday. Sagarika was a vision at the mehendi in a green Anita Dongre lehenga and wore an edgy Falguni and Shane Peacock white creation for the sangeet. Sania Mirza, Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech, Ashish Chowdhary and wife Samita Bangargi attended the rambunctious “dance party” on Sunday.
The couple kept things small and intimate despite their celebrity status. It's refreshing to see how they'd rather have a court wedding and celebrate with close friends rather than make a show of pomp and splendour. All the functions were kept away from the media glare, so they obliged press photographers waiting outside to sneak a snap.
Coincidentally, pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar also got married on Thursday (November 23). Kumar married his girlfriend Nupur Nagar in Meerut. Nupur is the 26-year-old daughter of retired police officer, Yashpal Singh Yadav. She hails from Meerut and works for an MNC in Greater Noida as an engineer.
They kept things traditional, complete with a white ghodi for the baaraat and band baajaa to accompany the groom.
Here's wishing both couples good luck and a blessed life together.
